ABOUT THE BOOKS

CHEF WARS: TOP CHEF, TOP CHEF MASTERS, TOP CHEF-JUST DESSERTS

The organization of typical Top Chef episode is a Quickfire Challenge (except for a finale) and an Elimination Challenge; competitors were selected from intermediate level chefs around the U.S.; locations of regular episodes and finale episodes and prizes were summarized for the first 7 seasons Top Chef; Top Chef Masters followed the same formats as regular Top Chef with the exception of the prizes are for nominated charitable organizations and the chefs are internationally recognized master chefs; Top Chef – Just Desserts followed its title with the competitors all pastry chefs or bakers. All 7 seasons of Top Chef have been included in this book. There have been a total of 86 episodes of Top Chef in seasons 1 to 7 plus 10 special reunions/all star single events. Top Chef Masters 1 was covered by 10 episodes. Top Chef Masters 2 had 9 episodes. Top Chef-Just Desserts had 10 episodes. Adding up all episodes, this book covers 125 episodes at an average of about 2 pages detail per episode. The analysis chapters reflect my personal views on key aspects of the Top Chef series: official audience-voted Fan Favorites compared to my Fan Favorites; Most Memorable Moments from Top Chef and Top Chef – Just Desserts; summary of Quickfire Challenges; summary of Elimination Challenges. I identify my favorite and least favorite Quickfire Challenges and Elimination Challenges. I created indexes for each competitor for every Top Chef season and the pages in which they were referenced in this book. I listed with the episodes in which they appeared all Top Chef regular judges, culinary guest judges, non-culinary guest judges, Top Chef Masters 1 regular judges and guest judges, Top Chef Masters 2 regular judges and guest critics, plus Top Chef-Just Desserts regular judges and guest judges.

CHEF WARS: HELLS KITCHEN

Chef Wars: Hell's Kitchen presents a series of commentary on the 8 seasons, 106 episodes and 115 competitors of HK1 to HK8. The core chapters analyze the attributes of a HK Winner in the categories of Skills, Values, Teamwork and Behavior, Challenges and their associated Rewards and Punishments, the 8 HK winners, why they won and where they are now as this book goes to press January 2011. There are analyses of Favorite Chefs and Most Memorable Hell's Kitchen Moments. Appendices are Ramsay Condensed Biography and a summary of the Brigade System concept. Finally, there are indices of Chef's Finishing Position by Season and a List of Hell's Kitchen Guest Judges and Critics.

CIRCUMNAVIGATING the GLOBE: AMAZING RACE 10 - 14 and AMAZING RACE ASIA 1 - 3

Circumnavigating the Globe highlights international travel in a reality television show competition. This book covers what happened in Amazing Race (AR) 10 to 14 and Amazing Race Asia (ARA) 1 to 3. Many of the analysis chapters also cover AR1 to 9. Included are an Amazing Race Vocabulary and listing of all countries and major cities visited by all amazing races (ARs plus ARAs). There is an analysis chapter on Animals. The author rates the Saddest Elimination of every AR or ARA and Weakest Teams in each AR or ARA. Analyses shows why his Favorite Teams for each AR and ARA merit that distinction and one is selected as the most favorite of all time. The most interesting chapter in this book could be the Most Amazing Moments of each AR and ARA. Following that, every FAST FORWARD ever taken is listed with type of task, the geography and the competition if known. There is a separate classification of all AR teams into categories Female/Female, Male/Male, Couple and Family Relationships with the major reason for elimination listed if that team did not win. There are transportation chapters on travel by air, self-driving, taxis, boats, trains and buses. This book finishes with multiple indexes on Races, Racers, and the most cited Places. If you are a fan of the Amazing Race, this book will help you become a superfan. If you have never watched the Amazing Race,this book provides a valuable education on the Amazing Race. If you watch the Amazing Race but are not a hard-core viewer, you should find this book enjoyable and entertaining.

AUTHOR INFORMATION

Arthur E. Perkins, Jr. grew up in New England and has also lived in the Northeast, Midwest, and South. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.S. Economics and from the Sloan School of Management at M.I.T. with a M.S. Management. He had a 19 year management career with large process industry companies. His second career has been consulting in small management services companies. He is an ardent international traveler with most travel experience to Europe and to Asia plus 49 of the 50 U.S. states. One of these years he will get to North Dakota. His favorite country to visit is New Zealand and his favorite places are Milford Sound, New Zealand South Island and Glacier Bay, Alaska. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and dog. He has two adult children. He is one of the many #1 fans of the Amazing Race, the Amazing Race Asia, Top chef, Top Chef Masters and Hell's Kitchen. These are his first three books.
